Miyu密语 Flashcards is built to respect your privacy completely. The app collects no personal data, contains no analytics or advertising, and includes no third-party tracking SDKs. This policy explains what that means in practice.
What we collect
Nothing. We do not collect, sell, share, or transmit any personal information to us or to anyone else. There are no accounts, no sign-in, and no user profiles.
What stays on your device
Your notebooks, cards, study history, and settings are stored locally on your device in the app's private storage. They are included in your device's normal encrypted backups (iCloud or Finder) if you have those enabled. This data never goes to us.
Optional multi-device sync
If you choose to link a second device (for example, your iPhone and iPad), the app can sync your notebooks and progress between them. This sync is:
- End-to-end encrypted — your data is encrypted on your device before it leaves, using a key that only your linked devices hold.
- Zero-knowledge — the relay service that passes the encrypted data between your devices only ever sees ciphertext. It cannot read your content.
- Accountless — devices are linked by scanning a QR code; there is no login, email, or identifier tied to you.
Sync is entirely optional and off until you link a device.
Permissions
- Microphone & Speech Recognition — used only when you practice pronunciation in a speaking drill, to check what you said. Audio is processed using Apple's on-device speech recognition and is not stored or transmitted by the app.
- Camera — used only to scan the QR code when you link a second device for sync, and to read Chinese text from a photo you choose (processed on-device with Apple's Live Text). The app does not store or transmit photos.
Basic, non-identifying usage counts
When the app checks for a message of the day, our server records that a request happened. We keep only aggregate daily totals so we can gauge roughly how many people use the app. No IP addresses are retained, nothing is linked to you or your content, and no identifier is stored. It is a count of requests, nothing more.
Dictionary data
The bundled Chinese–English dictionary is based on CC-CEDICT, licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike. It ships inside the app and requires no network access.
Children's privacy
Because the app collects no personal data and does no tracking, it is safe for users of all ages. It does not knowingly collect information from anyone.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted here with a new "last updated" date.
